Miller is telling Leon to take care of the horse because Miller is still a complete asshole and has no authority to tell Leon to do anything but sees Leon as a servant.

Julian is defusing the tension between Miller and Melissa by bossing them both around before either can try to be bossy at the other.

I've just noticed that Melissa is consistently taller than Miller and that must have been intentional.
