Once in history class we painted some terracotta pots, smashed them, and gave them to another student, who then had to reconstruct the pot and interpret the paintings on it. This activity taught the class an important lesson, that people who try to interpret bits of art that doesn't have clear intent can and will often get the wrong idea. It's something I think about a lot when people find a new artifact and make a big announcement for it.
