Ellie's mother hasn't shown up in the comic yet and I'm not sure she's really been mentioned. To spell out her whole deal plainly, her husband died in the war while she was pregnant AND her daughter turned out to have supernatural future-telling powers so she's kind of extremely overbearing and controlling and I don't really blame her but she's just very unpleasant.
